CHALLENGE
a pre-cursor to PBL-interactive
The
CHALLENGE suite was developed from 2001 - 2002 as a scenario-based authoring and
presentation tool. It was made available to Massey University staff, and
to those outside Massey who wanted to purchase it.
In 2004 the Centre for Biological Information Technology (CBIT), University of Queensland, Massey's past collaborator in this
area with Diagnosis for Crop Problems, independently developed a similar generic authoring and delivery tool (called PBL-Interactive). This was server-based and had other improved features.
Supporting the
CHALLENGE suite at Massey proved difficult. Rather than further developing
CHALLENGE in direct competition to PBL-interactive it was felt that a more sensible use of resources would be to
collaborate.
A
Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) e-Learning Collaborative
Development Grant has been won for July 2005 to December 2006
to further develop the PBL concepts started with CHALLENGE.
As part of this grant, CBIT as been contracted to develop a
specific version of PBL-Interactive for NZ Government-owned
Tertiary Providers.

A derivative of the
CHALLENGE Suite, CHALLENGE FRAP was developed as part of the eCDF work. This eventually became Challenge WORKBOOK. A free
license is available on this website.

information on the now discontinued CHALLENGE suite, check out this
